STATEMENT
Over the past several years I have experienced a sharp, constant, high-pitched frequency in my left ear. This reoccurring sound creates a grueling composition when combined with the subways, sirens and honks of New York City. Throughout this performance, I rely on natural earthen elements to create a protective shield within and around both ear drums. I am attempting to re-discover silence only to become increasingly aware of my internal sound scape.

ACTIONS
City scape noises are loudly projected and manipulated based on the proximity of objects to my ears. While barefoot, find balance while standing upon a ledge of rocks. Force clay into the ear canal. Proceed to each material and seek a proper sound shield. Once external sounds are blocked, retreat to the ledge. After a moment of reflection retreat to defeat of noise.

The world, the earth is very persistent.
The senses are my connection to this world around me.
The steady murmur exhausts my senses.

As I sit, forcing objects in my ear, the sounds of the surrounding world will fade,
but the awareness of internal ringing increases.

I can hear myself breathing.
I can hear my eyelashes click,
heart

beat,

I can hear spit wrestle, swallow,
the grinding of my muscles.

The fabricated internal sound increases in sound as it evolves to my primary aural interpretation.
