May 2011
04:04:00
Hot Wood III
Public Assembly
Brooklyn, New York

+ 50 apples

+ 100 latex gloves
+ 200 clothespins

+ found table
+ coal
+ rolling pin

+ 6 lbs of flour
+ hammer
+ 5 glass jars

+ 50 ft. of rope
STATEMENT
Our Between invites viewers to participate in an act intended to push boundaries of proximity and societal roles. Each participant is invited to select an apple. The performer carefully cleans the  selected fruit and offers it back to the participant. After the participant indulges in a single bite, the performer gnaws away the remaining fruit to become as close as possible to the other’s bite. The apple remnants display two emblematic marks that bring physicality to our between.

ACTIONS
Kneel behind table of apples, water and rope and wait for viewer participation. When a participant selects an apple, take apple, wash it in water basin, and hand it back. After participant has taken a bite of the apple, bite around all remaining apple contents without touching the bite of the other. Discard apple bites within glass jars. Hang apple bite sliver on clothes line. Mix apple contents in jar with freshly ground coal and flour. REPEAT.
