A tribute to Cynthia Hurd, Clementa Pinckney, Ethel Lee Lance, Depayne Middleton Doctor, Sharonda Coleman-Singleton, Daniel L Simmons Sr., Myra Thompson, Susie Jackson and Tywanza Sanders.

To their loved ones, friends and community. I am deeply saddened by the tragedy in Charleston. The vastness of racism throughout the south, the United States and our shared world is deplorable.

Over two days (June 22-23), I shared in grief and meditation with the surrounding Harlem community at chashama 461 Gallery. Thank you to those who participated and advocate for compassion.

It has been over a year since nearly 16,000 pig carcasses were found in the river banks outside of Shanghai, China. This news story deeply effected me and has remained present in my memory over the past 14 months. I continue working on sculptures as seen above that will ultimately encompass a large installation.

Last summer I completed a related action, in which 16,000 charcoal marks hit the wall  as an attempt to comprehend such a massive quantity. Perhaps what is even more disturbing is that according to local farmers, dead pigs in rivers is nothing new.
China's dead pig scandal ushers in hard times for fishermen, farmers
